Getting ready to go inside the cave. |
La Porquera Cave is located in the village of Triongo, Cangas de Onís, Asturias. Just 4 km. from our main headquarters in Arriondas.
It is an horzontal progession cave with almost no vertical sections.
Inside the cave is a continous up and down walking throuth galeries and passage with massive rocks that make this cave very interesting for a first view into caving and for more experience people.
There is very nice formations like rooms full of stalactites and stalagmites, and also some with natural guano from the vats that live inside some periods of the year.
This cave was first used by the local population to keep sheeps, goats and cows inside. During the spanish civil war, the cave was used as well by the people to hide from the different factions.
To get to the entrance of the cave it is neccesary to walk along a very nice path that runs next to a river throuth a tipical Asturias green forest. This walk is 2,5 km long and will take us between 20-30 minutes.
