Talking about the Picos de Europa is talking abiut trekking and climbing history in Spain. Since ancient times men have walked the Picos de Europa area, most of the time were local farmers taking their cattle up the higher fields, some other time were brave soldiers fighting, and latelly just people like us who enjoy nature and trekking in the most beautifull mountains in Spain.

There is trekking routes in the Picos de Europa area for every level. Since a small 2 hour wander arround the Covadonga lakes to the most xtreme climbing in the Picu Urriellu 400m. high wall.

Here goes a small selection of the trekking routes we like most in the Picos de Europa:

1- From Corao to the Covadonga Lakes: It is a medium route that starts in the village of Corao and using the old paths to bring the cattle up to the higher fields. It is 12km. long and goes up almost 1000m.

2- From Covadonga to Orandi: Another migration route for the cattle, this time it does not go so high up, only 500m. but we will visit the Orandi Valley a place you will never forget.

3- There is two routes that start in the Covadonga Lakes and goes to Ario and the Ordiales viewpoint. Two different routes that are meddium level mountain trek, and that will need special atencion to the weather since they run very hihg in the Picos de Europa.

4- The last but not least is the climbing of the Picu Urriellu. One of Spains most important climbing mountains. Only for people who already had some climbing experience.
