| On the banks of the Sella and Dobra rivers: |
One of Asturias wonders is water. The amount of water and the purity of this element as well as the effects it produces on the plants and the different living species.
Some of the two best places to enjoy this sight is the Sella and Dobra rivers. Both coming from the edge of the Picos de Europa National Park.
In Frontera Verde we have designed tow walking paths trhough the banks of this two wonderfull rivers of Asturias.
The trekking route we organice along the Sella river is done between the villages of Arriondas and Cangas de Onís. It is 7-8 km. long and will take us around 2 hours trhough a very easy going path.
We will use the same path farmers and salmon fishers use to go along the Sella river, we will visit the San Antonio church, we will admire the power of the Golondrosu rapids, visit the roman bridge of Cangas de Onís and the monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva and the National Parador.
If we are lucky, we will be able to see the different species that live in the rivers as the salmons and trouts, herons, blackbirds, kingfishers...
As neccesary equipment we will need a raincoat and proper shoes to walk in muddy paths.
Dobra means water of life in the lost asturian language. And it is one of Europe´s 10 cleanest rivers as it cames straight from the Picos de Europa National Park. This is a very famous river time before the Roman Empire came here almost 2000 years ago as it appears in different ancient maps.
Our route goes between the mouth of the Dobra river over the Sella river to the San Vicente´s pool. It is about 4-5 km. long distance and will take us around 1 hour each way. It is a very low level trekking route and can be done almost in any kind of shoes. In the summer time it is highly recomended to bring swim wear, towels and plenty of time to enjoy this magic place.
